On Friday morning at 0540 hours the commercial box assignment was struck for the building fire at the Dunkin Donuts Restaurant at Springfield Rd. and Macdade Blvd. Company 42, Company 06, Company 04 ( Darby #1), Company 21 (Darby #2), Company 01 (Folcroft), Company 75 (Briarcliffe), Rescue 19 (Lansdowne), RIT 43 (Holmes), and Medic Ridley-7 were on the ticket. First in police officers reported heavy smoke showing from the roof and the assignment was quickly upgraded to a working fire. Engine 42 under the command of 1st Asst. Chief Rich Guerra (42-9a) arrived to a one story, 40 X 80 restaurant with a utility loft with smoke showing from the A-frame roof exhaust openings and eaves. 1st Asst. Chief Guerra assumed Macdade Blvd. command and assigned the crew from E42 to an interior attack with an 1 3/4 water line. Quint 06 under the command of Asst. Chief Hanly (06-9A) arrived and went into roof operations on the B side of the building. 21-5 (Darby #2) arrived shortly thereafter and crews from 21-5, Engine 75 and Engine 04 went to work on the D side of the roof. The bulk of the fire was located in the utility loft towards the C side of the building. Crews made quick work of fire suppression and were in service for approximately one hour and forty-five minutes including overhaul and scene cleanup. The members and line officers of Station 42 extend our appreciation to all personnel on scene.
